Introduction and Back ground to Swa Vana
In March of 2004 Andre and Charmaine Krugel were asked by the community members of the Huntington trust to assist with the orphans and vulnerable children who were struggling.
Home visits were done to assess the situation and it was agreed by the Community Development Forum and local chief of the area that the children needed urgent assistance.
Swa Vana is currently responsible for:
- Managing 3 Drop In Centres at Huntington (since 2006), Lilydale (since 2007) and Justicia (since 2008) caring for orphan and vulnerable children on a daily basis
- Rural enterprise development
- Home based Care program (2009) assists families in situations of crisis in the Huntington Trust area
Vision
To facilitate and guide individuals within broken communities to a place of restoration and hope, offering long term solutions and holistic care.
Mission
To provide assistance and palliative care in situations of crisis, working towards the development of long term solutions for orphans, vulnerable children and the terminally ill together with their communities.
Goals
- To have successful Drop In Centres in Huntington, Lillydale and Justicia providing physical and psycho social support to orphaned and vulnerable children.
- To maintain the maximum level of comfort, function and health for the aged, disabled and terminally ill.
- To empower and equip local community members, to take care of orphaned and vulnerable children and the sick in their villages.
- Rural Enterprise Development Initiatives for youth and matriculants so that they can become self sustainable in their communities thereby breaking the cycle of poverty
